I am Margaret Rynning, a graphic designer and associate professor at Westerdals Institute of Communication and Design, Kristiania University College in Oslo, Norway.
I have been working as a designer for more than 20 years within design agencies in Oslo, mainly focusing on visual identity and packaging design. Within these fields, I have won several awards and also participated in jury work within design. Some of my designs are presented in this website. The experience and knowledge about the design industry help me in my teaching practice. My teaching philosophy is inductive, allowing students to experiment and explore the possibilities of design while I support and tutor them in their process.
My research interests are primarily in discursive, critical design, which explores scenarios through visual concepts communicating issues of social and political nature. These visual scenarios may help us as humans envisioning new possibilities and may lead to a change in how we think and act.
Another interest of research is Nordic design and how regional culture affects the way we design and how intercultural communication may create an understanding of differences and similarities of designing around the world.
The aim of this website is to inspire and share some of the projects I do in my design, my research and together with my students.
